Laurier and the community welcomed the Waterloo riding’s 4-major party candidates to Lazaridis Hall on Wednesday, May 16 for a well-attended debate.
The topic of this particular debate was higher education. The candidates were asked 4 questions about their parties proposed visions for post-secondary education/post-secondary institutions in Ontario. From left to right in the above image, you can see at the candidates’ table: Zdravko Gunjevic representing the Green Party of Ontario; Dorothy McCabe representing the Ontario Liberal Party; Dan Weber representing the PC Party of Ontario; and the current incumbent, Catherine Fife representing the Ontario NDP/NPD. The candidates were given 3 minutes to introduce themselves and their interests, they each then had 2 minutes to answer each question with a further minute each for rebuttal after all 4 had responded.
Thanks go out to the following groups for organising this very interesting candidates’ debate: Conestoga Students Incorporated (CSI), Conestoga Faculty (OPSEU/CAAT (A) Local 237), Conestoga Staff (OPSEU Local 238), Federation of Students (Feds), University of Waterloo Graduate Students Association (GSA), University of Waterloo Staff Association (UWSA), Faculty Association of the University of Waterloo (FAUW), Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union (WLUSU), Wilfrid Laurier Graduate Student Association (WLUGSA), Wilfrid Laurier University Faculty Association (WLUFA), Wilfrid Laurier University Staff Association (WLUSA), and Laurier Managerial Group (LMG). Thanks also to the 4 candidates who participated in the debate, our moderator Craig Norris of CBC one, all of the volunteers who worked the event and Robert Gordon for opening the debate.
